RAPA NUI - EASTER ISLAND

Moai carved at the top of the Rano Raraku volcano, and never cut out from its niche.

IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SOUTH PACIFIC

The Easter Island is a remote and lonely spot, lost in the enormity of the Pacific Ocean.

3.700 km separate the island from the coast of Chile and 4.000 km from Tahiti. To the north and the south, more than 3800 km and 5000 km of water lie before the Galapagos Islands and the Antarctic.

CLIMATE

The climate is subtropical with an average yearly temperature of 21°C. The rains are poor but frequent, as falling during all the year.

A POLYNESIAN ISLAND

Colonized by a polynesian group during the 5th century, the Easter Island is located at the easternmost vertex of the large triangular archipelago known as Polynesia. At the nothernmost vertex lies Hawaii, with New Zealand marking the southwestern point.
